Dentist visits PreK
PreK was very lucky today to have Dr. Marshall Meggers (dentist) and his wife, Ashley, to visit PreK. Dr. Meggers taught us about good dental hygiene and Ashley read us a great Dr. Seuss book about visiting the dentist. It was a fun way to culminate our supplemental unit on "Going to the Dentist".

Keeping a log on brushing our teeth
The Lizards were challenged to brush their teeth twice a day for one week. Several of them did a terrific job of keeping track of their teeth brushing and completed their logs. Those that completed their logs received a certificate.
Tooth Egg-speriment Conclusion
So, we waited 24 hours to see what would happen to our eggs. The Lizards discovered that the water did not affect the hard-boiled egg, the grape juice turned it purple, and the cola caused it to turn a light brown with dark spots on it. We used our sense of touch, sight, and smell in our observations. Afterwards, the Lizards did an incredible job of recording their conclusions in our experiment. In the end, we learned that the foods we eat and drink can affect our teeth and that we need to brush our teeth twice a day.

Tooth Egg-speriment! Prediciting
My little scientist made predictions today on a science experiment to help us learn more about the enamel on our teeth. We took three hard-boiled eggs and placed them in three separate cups filled with liquids - water, cola, and grape juice. I explained that the shell on the eggs is similar to the outside of a tooth. Students recorded their predictions. We will wait 24 hours to see what happens to our eggs.

LRSD's One Book, One District
As an enrichment theme for PreK, students were challenged to read the book, Going to the Dentist, by Mercer Mayer. Afterwards, we found pictures of healthy foods to glue on our construction paper teeth. Theses Lizards are super smart and know how to be super healthy!!!
